Sevier County is home to three US Corp of Engineers lake properties and neighbors a fourth. These lakes provide great opportunity for fishing, family picnics, and camping or RV parking spots by the day or week.

Bike Trails

New bike trails are currently under construction at De Queen Lake, but a community of bike riders has developed and can often be found gathering on weekends with pavement and gravel bike routes developed.

De Queen, the Sevier County seat, is the Knifemaking Capitol of the World. With a group of knifemakers that has met monthly for more than two decades they are growing a global reputation as master artisans.

National Register Landmarks

Sevier County is currently home to 16 nationally registered landmarks that include private residences, commercial districts, old bridges and an original jail house located along the famed Kansas City Railroad.

The Sevier County Museum holds the history of the founding of this great Southwest Arkansas community with feature displays on trains, singer Collin Raye, Caddo Indians, the Trial of Tears and early pioneer life.

held the first weekend of May in downtown De Queen, hosted by the UA Cossatot Foundation

held annually in October as the historical community festival for the county, hosted by the Sevier County Museum

a festival held each fall in at the historic Lockesburg Gym featuring vendors, artisans and a fish fry

Other Opportunities

 

DINOSAUR BONES | In 2017, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson legislatively marked the Arkansaurus Fridayi as the official dinosaur of the State of Arkansas. The original bones of this dinosaur were discovered in 1972 on an evening cattle run by Lockesburg resident. Today the bones are part of a collection at the Univeristy of Arkansas and palentiologist are completing ongoing work to discover more about this creature.

ARKANSAS ARCHEOLOGICAL SURVEY | In 1985 at the site of the Caddo Indian Hollman Springs salt mounds and again in 2019 at the Lockesburg Mounds ritual site, Sevier County was home to the Arkansas Archeological Survey's excavation program. Through both of these experiences our community, the AAS, and the Caddo Indian nation are learning more about the rituals and lifestyles of their ancestors.
